MDOT Seeks Input on Long-range Transportation Plan
Public Meeting August 15 in Traverse City
Traverse City, Michigan—Which roadmap should the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) follow to address our state’s transportation needs through 2035? MDOT is holding a series of public meeting to get input to help revise its long-range plan, “MI Transportation Plan: Moving Michigan Forward.” The meetings include one in Traverse City, August 15 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., in the Conference Room at the Northwest Michigan Works! Service Center, 1209 S. Garfield. The open house will feature brief presentations at 5:15 p.m. and 6:15 p.m.
"If the other five guiding principles of The Grand Vision were to represent the vital organs of our regional anatomy then transportation would represent the central nervous system," said Kim Pontius, Grand Vision spokesman. "Absolutely nothing can function reliably without the connectivity that a resilient transportation strategy provides. Having a long time window MDOT plan contributes to more relevant cross-functional region wide planning within the other Grand Vision networks."
The draft plan will be available at michigan.gov/slrp beginning August 1. That website also includes the locations, dates and times for other public meetings around the state. MDOT will seek public comments on the plan through September 1. Please call 517-373-9534 for more information.
The Grand Vision Transportation Network meets the second Tuesday of each month at 3:30 p.m. in the second floor conference room at the Northwest Michigan Council of Governments office, 600 E. Front St., Traverse City. Those meetings are open to the public.
